Celebrating Compassion and Inclusion at the 2024 Hampton Classic

Bridgehampton, NY – August 26, 2024 – The 49th Hampton Classic Horse Show kicked off with an incredible blend of heartwarming events, proving once again why it’s one of the most beloved equestrian gatherings in the world. This year, the spotlight shone brightly on two very special events: Animal Adoption Day, sponsored by Georgina Bloomberg, and the 17th annual Long Island Horse Show Series for Riders with Disabilities (LIHSSRD) Finals, presented by Dime Bank.

Animal Adoption Day: Where Every Animal Has a Story

On Monday, the Grand Prix Arena at the Hampton Classic transformed into a vibrant hub of hope and joy, hosting the 13th annual Animal Adoption Day. Sponsored by international equestrian Georgina Bloomberg, this event brought together a community passionate about giving animals a second chance at life. The EQUUS Foundation, a dedicated advocate for horse welfare, invited spectators to the Grand Prix Ring to meet adoptable horses from their Guardian charities. Each horse, as EQUUS Foundation VP of Engagement Valerie Angeli beautifully put it, “is a champion waiting to happen.”

Spectators were also introduced to various dog and cat rescue groups, further emphasizing the importance of adoption across species. The day was a testament to the belief that every animal, whether horse, dog, or cat, deserves a loving home. From educational presentations to hands-on interactions, attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose to support animal welfare and the adoption movement.

LIHSSRD Finals: Showcasing Exceptional Talent

Monday’s excitement didn’t stop with Animal Adoption Day. The Hampton Classic also proudly hosted the 17th annual LIHSSRD Finals, presented by Dime Bank. This event is a cornerstone of the Hampton Classic, highlighting the incredible talents and determination of riders with disabilities.

The day began with 14 LIHSSRD riders showcasing their skills in the Walk/Trot with Aides, Intermediate Walk/Trot, and Independent divisions. These athletes, along with their loyal equine partners, demonstrated not only their riding abilities but also the spirit of inclusion and perseverance. As Jane DaCosta, Founder and Executive Director of Metropolitan Equestrian, eloquently stated, “This day at the Hampton Classic highlights the values of therapeutic riding – inclusion, compassion, excellence, and an awareness of body, mind, and spirit.”

Following the competition, the riders were treated to a special luncheon in one of the Classic’s VIP chalets, where they were joined by dignitaries from Dime Bank and American Grand Prix rider Molly Ashe Cawley. The celebration continued as awards and ribbons were presented, recognizing the exceptional efforts and achievements of these inspiring athletes.
