Guild Hall Presents: Academy Icons – Susan Lacy and Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart

Guild Hall is proud to introduce its new program, Academy Icons, celebrating the work of its Academy of the Arts members. The inaugural event features Susan Lacy, an award-winning director and producer best known for creating the acclaimed PBS biography series American Masters.

The event will feature a screening of Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart, a documentary that delves into the life and impact of legendary musician Lou Reed. Known for pushing the boundaries of rock and roll into avant-garde territory, Reed’s legacy is explored through interviews with Reed himself, his friends, and major artists he influenced, including David Bowie, David Byrne, John Cale, Philip Glass, and Patti Smith.

Following the screening, join an engaging talk with Susan Lacy, multidisciplinary artist and Lou Reed’s wife, Laurie Anderson, and the film’s director, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders. This discussion promises to provide unique insights into Reed’s artistic journey and legacy.

About Susan Lacy: Susan Lacy is celebrated for her work on American Masters, which profiles artists and cultural icons such as James Baldwin, Bob Dylan, Judy Garland, and many more. Her career has been marked by numerous accolades, including 71 Emmy nominations and 28 wins, 13 Peabody Awards, three Grammy Awards, and several Academy Award nominations. Since joining HBO, Lacy has directed and produced acclaimed documentaries including Spielberg, Jane Fonda in Five Acts, and Very Ralph. Lacy’s contribution to documentary filmmaking and her impact on cultural storytelling make her the perfect artist to launch Guild Hall’s Academy Icons series.
