The Artist and His Work
Francisco Daniel Cabrera, born in Cuenca, Ecuador in 1989, has been a resident of East Hampton since 2009. His artistic journey took a fascinating turn in 2015 when he discovered the transformative power of color on receipt paper. Captivated by this phenomenon, he began experimenting with thermal materials, chemicals, and pigments to create vibrant, imaginative worlds. His work explores the intersection of surrealism and abstract expressionism, using unorthodox substances to reveal hidden paradises beneath the surface of everyday materials.
Cabrera’s work prompts viewers to reflect on the interplay of chemicals and contemporary American life, juxtaposing the hidden lives of those in an ‘American Paradise’ with the dreams of immigrants seeking a better life.
